Emerging Technology
A new emerging technology is the Flow. The Flow is a paintbrush with real bristles that can be used on touchscreens. Touchscreens included are an iPad, iPod, iPhone, and any Android phone or tablet. With the Flow you can paint a picture without the mess of actual paint. You do, however, have to have one of the devices that supports the Flow. If schools funded and bought the Flow, and devices that supported it, the way teachers taught painting would be changed.
Teachers would be able to demonstrate painting techniques without using supplies. Also in general the painting supplies cost would go down. The different colors of paint, and other supplies would not have to be bought. Instead students would draw their paintings on touchscreens. Of course, there are some situations where students still need to paint physical items to get the feel. However, I feel that in the future there is going to be curriculum created that focuses around using touchscreens for painting. Until that day, traditional painting will continue. Take a look at it! Assistive Technology
This is software program called TextAloud 3. With this program, instead of reading emails, web pages, etc. you can listen to them! TextAloud 3 reads everything aloud to you. You can also download your daily reading to your iPod. I personally think this is an awesome program. It is not only helpful for those that have a hard time reading pages on the computer, but can be helpful for everyone!
If my school provided the money to buy this program for the classrooms, I would definitely use it! For younger classes, instead of having my students read websites, I would have them listen to the content. Younger students don't know very big words yet, and with this program they can be introduced verbally and visually to bigger words. This program can also be used to help visually impaired students as well. There are so many ways to use this program! Take a look at it! TextAloud 3

Introduction to Our Solar System
Hello class! I would like you to take a moment to watch this playlist I put together. We are going to start a unit on our Solar System next week, and this playlist will introduce what we are going to be learning.
As you watch these videos, I want you to answer the following questions on a separate piece of paper.
1) How was the sun and our solar system formed?
2) What order are the planets in the solar system in?
3) What planets have moons?
4) How old is the solar system according to the last video?
5) What planets make up the inner solar system?
The answers to these questions are due Monday. I hope you find these videos interesting! Please let me know if you have any questions!

Glogster
I just learned about this new site called Glogster. It is a site where you can make digital posters on whatever you want. I made a poster of some California facts. I would use this in my classroom to introduce topics to my students. I hope you will check this site out! Below is a link to my California glog.

Teacher Resources!
I found some really interesting and helpful sites that could be used by teachers, no matter what grade they are teaching. I found some that teachers could use in planning their lessons, and some that their students can interact with. Below is a link to my website's resources page. Please feel free to check it out! If you find or know of any helpful teacher websites, please comment and tell me the URL!

Rebecca Young- "About Me"
I was born in Pasadena, California where I grew up until I went away to college. I lived with my parents and my older sister in a city with a variety of ethnic groups. From an early age, I was exposed to people who were "different" from me. However, from growing up in a Christian home, I never saw others as different. I started playing the flute in fourth grade and was in band all through middle school, and the first two years of high school. During my sophomore and junior years of high school, I volunteered as a candy striper at the hospital. My senior year, I volunteered at my church for the Children's Ministries Pastor. This turned into a job the summer before I left to go to college.
I currently am a sophomore at Northwest Nazarene University. I first started college with my major being Biology, then changed it to Secondary Education: Math Area. I found my passion for teaching while being a Secondary Education: Math Area major, but realized secondary was not for me. After finding this out, I changed my major to Elementary Education. I realize how I have a passion to be a positive influence in younger children. I want to help teach children how to read and write, but I also want to be someone who cares about them. I want to encourage them and tell them they can achieve their dreams.
In the future, I would like to teach third or fourth grade, but am open to teaching any grade. I also would like to tutor on the side of teaching in the classroom. I have a strong desire to help students work through their struggles, and help them find how they learn best. I feel that it is really important for each student to find what works best for them. I am not really sure where I am going to end up teaching, but I am waiting and trusting God to show me where He wants me to go.
